30th Annual Y.E.S. Golf Tournament & After Party
The Youth Education Scholarship Fund (Y.E.S.) Golf Tournament, organized by the Young Professionals Network and the Steamboat Springs Chamber, will take place at Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club. Funds raised from the tournament are awarded in two categories, consisting of Routt County high school graduating seniors and past recipients of the scholarship still enrolled. The cost is $135 per person and includes golf cart plus cocktails and appetizers for players after the tournament. Registration is at 10 a.m. and tee off is at 11:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams with additional prizes for the longest drive, longest putt and drive closest to the center line, just to name a few. There will be two Hole-In-One prizes, a car donated by Cook Chevrolet and a $15,000 cash prize donated by Yampa Valley Bank.

4 Week Intermediate Wheel Class: Making Teapots and Jars
Instructor: Neely Hatchel Wednesdays May 31 - June 21, 2018 from 6:00-9 pm Cost: $310, includes instructor fee, open studio use May 31st - June 26th, instructor fee, 25 lbs of clay, glazes and firings during class session. Additional clay/glaze/firing package available for $75 per bag. Looking for a new challenge on the wheel? Teapots are the pinnacle of pottery projects! They involve controlled and technical throwing techniques; Create lids, spouts and handles all on the same piece! The first week, Neely will guide students through the process of throwing jars and creating different types of lids. The next two weeks, students will focus on the the more advanced project of creating teapot parts and assembling them. The last class will be reserved for glazing. Participants will have the option to fire in cone 6 oxidation or cone 10 reduction. We will also have a potluck kiln-opening party at the end of the session - friends and family welcome! 6 Week Thursday Afternoon Hand-Building with Slabs & Surface Decoration Class
May 17th - June 21st, 2018, 2-5 pm We will begin by creating stamps and sprigs for use on slab-built forms. Simple plaster forms will be used to create bowls and trays, textured with our own hand-made stamps. We will also create cylindrical forms and alter them using darting techniques, creating fun, organic shapes for functional or non-functional vessels. Students will have the option to create wall-hanging tiles or boxes to be decorated by carving, slip-trailing, slip inlay or sgrafitto. Participants will have the option to fire in cone 6 oxidation or cone 10 reduction. 6 Week Tuesday Evening All-levels Pottery Wheel Class
This class will cover the first basic steps of wheel-thrown ceramics. Students will learn to center the clay on the wheel, form the bottom of the vessel and then begin creating simple cylinder forms. Students will also learn to trim their pots on the wheel and glaze their pieces. Intermediate students can brush up on their skills and will choose specific projects to work in a series, improving craftsmanship and to creating more complex forms. Students will have the option to fire in cone 6 oxidation or cone 10 reduction. Carving techniques and slip trailing/decoration will also be demonstrated and incorporated into the class for those who are interested. Those who have taken the class before are welcome to work on more advanced methods of decoration and building. Several additional open studio times will be scheduled for working outside of class. Ask-A-Lawyer Day
FREE LEGAL CLINIC The Mecklenburg County Bar Young Lawyers Division will host a free walk-in legal clinic on Sat., Nov. 12, 2016. The clinic will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Main Public Library at 310 North Tryon Street. Individuals in the community will have an opportunity to ask experienced lawyers questions regarding various legal issues. Interested persons will meet with a lawyer on a first come first served basis. Volunteer lawyers from the Mecklenburg County Bar will provide general information about the law in North Carolina, distribute pamphlets on legal issues and direct individuals to various community resources.
